Ogihara set to leave Cerezo this summer

Posted at — Jun 30, 2016

Cerezo Osaka midfielder Takahiro Ogihara is on the way out from the team to which he has belonged for more than 10 years, according to reports.

This news firstly came out yesterday when Sports Nippon said the clubs including Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Nagoya Grampus are intersted in signing Ogihara this summer. And today’s reports from Sports Nippon, Sports Hochi, and Nikkan Sports suggest his destination is likely to be Nagoya.

Ogihara has got few playing time this season so far, playing only 4 games and starting only 1 game. Two positions in deep midfield have basically been assumed by Kazuya Yamamura and Souza, and Hotaru Yamaguchi’s coming back definitely affects negatively on him. After Yamaguchi’s player registration will be completed on July 1, Ogihara will probably be the fourth or fifth choice among defensive midfielders.

On the other hand, Cerezo may not want to let go of one of the best products from their youth system on a permanent basis. According to yesterday’s Chunichi Sports, Nagoya are trying to sign him on loan. Leaving on loan would be realistic and benefit Cerezo too, in a sense that it can give him playing opportunity they can’t provide, although whether he can get it at Nagoya is another thing.
