J.League YBC Levain Cup knockout stage draw took place at the Fuji TV headquarters in Tokyo today and Cerezo Osaka have been drawn to face last year’s Levain Cup winners Urawa Reds in the quarter-finals.
The draw was officially aired on YouTube, Facebook, and LINE.
Initially captain Yoichiro Kakitani was going to join but because he got sick, Yasuki Kimoto (who has constantly played as a part of the team for cup games) participated in it. J.League posted a video of Kimoto talking with Kawasaki Frontale’s Ryota Oshima whom he played together at Shizuoka Gakuen High School before the event started.

As a result of the draw, Cerezo Osaka will face last year’s Levain Cup winners Urawa Reds in the quarter-finals. We won 4-2 against them in the most recent meeting but yesterday they sacked long-serving Mihailo “Mischa” Petrovic and appointed coach Takafumi Hori as his successor, so we can’t predict how the game will go yet.
The quarter-finals will be held on August 30 and September 3.
