Koji Suzuki joins Cerezo Osaka from FC Ryukyu

Posted at — Aug 13, 2019

Cerezo Osaka announced this morning that experienced striker Koji Suzuki has joined the club from J2 side FC Ryukyu on a permanent basis.

Koji Suzuki started his professional career in 2012 when he joined FC Machida Zelvia after graduating from Hosei University. He spent there for 7 years and scored more than 60 goals in total. He unfortunately had repeated injuries with his left achilles tendon since 2016 and his performance declined, and he had to leave Machida due to contract expiration.

Suzuki participated in the league’s tryout and joined FC Ryukyu, who were just promoted from the third division for the first time in their history, this year. He made a great comeback and has scored 15 goals in the J2 League this season so far, being in the second place in the top scorer ranking.

Sports writer Kazuto Oshima said in a post published on Yahoo! News that Suzuki doesn’t have great strength, something which easily distinguishes him from other strikers, and that’s his strength. While he is not the tallest, not the fastest, or not the most technically gifted striker, he has good ability to observe situations and can play well with every striker.
