Atomu Tanaka’s goal against Urawa Reds, with which he led the team to win at Saitama Stadium 2002 on September 13, has been selected as the J1 Best Goal of the Month, the club announced today.
It is praised by the league’s committee as “a beautiful goal which decided the game” and not just his goal but combination play between Kota Mizunuma, Koji Suzuki, and Riku Matsuda, which created that goal, consists the reason of selection. Hiroaki Okuno, who created space in front of Tanaka by running, also played a big role.
“It was the best moment I scored a goal and celebrated in front of supporters with my Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) pose,” he commented.
